The Alaska Rock Gym, located in Anchorage, is seeking a qualified individual to join its management team as Head Coach and Director of Youth Programs. Under the direction of the General Manager, the successful applicant shall be responsible for the management and oversight of all youth competition programs, youth climbing and youth educational programs offered by the gym. This is a full-time position. Some weekend hours will be required from time to time, plus in-state and out-of-state travel with the competition team.
The Alaska Rock Gym, founded in 1995, has created a strong and active presence within the climbing community in Anchorage. Housed in refurbished warehouse space for over 20 years, the gym relocated to a newly constructed and state of the art 23,000 square foot facility in August of 2016. The business has now embarked on the mission of offering another 20 years of great indoor climbing, strong youth and competitive programs, and innovative adult climbing and fitness opportunities to the recreational and fitness communities of Anchorage and southcentral Alaska. Job Responsibilities
Manage and direct all youth programs, curriculums and clinic schedules
Manage assistant coaches and instructors of all youth programs
Manage and coordinate education, continuing education and certifications of coaching staff and climbing instructors
Coordinate and act as head coach to all youth competition teams
Travel to out-of-state youth competitions, regionally and nationally
Coordinate competition schedules for junior teams, including travel arrangements
With the assistance of the GM, create and coordinate in-house risk management programs and training for all coaches and instructors
With the assistance of the GM, manage and direct marketing campaigns for all youth programs
With the assistance of the GM, conduct regular employee evaluations and review
With the assistance of the GM and department heads, coordinate special events and climbing competitions

Qualifications & Requirements
Strong rock climbing background
Minimum three years coaching/instructing climbing
Excellent communication, organizational and motivational skills
Extensive knowledge of roped climbing and bouldering technique, and youth training theory
Knowledge of youth climbing programs, youth coaching and youth competition
Knowledge of competitive climbing and USA Climbing rules and regulations
Ability to construct training and skill progression programs for competitive and recreational youth climbers
Ability to manage and schedule assistant coaches and instructors for youth programs
Ability to organize mock competitions for youth teams, and communicate requirements to Head Route Setter
Ability to maintain regular communication concerning youth programs with parents and management
Ability to generate and present revenue and expense budgets related to programs and staffing
CPR/1st Aid Certification

Salary dependent on experience
